Frequently Asked Questions

How it works?

How does period underwear work?

Our underwear for periods absorbs your flow, helps control odor, wicks moisture, and helps prevent leaks so teens feel fresh, dry, and comfortable throughout the day! No other period products are required. Our period-absorbing underwear is machine washable and reusable- so you can wear, wash, and wear again!

Is your period underwear reusable?

Yep. Our period underwear is washable and reusable, so teens can wear them, wash them, and wear them again, just like regular underwear.
Follow our care instructions to keep your teens’ undies in tip-top shape.

How much fluid does Thinx Teens absorb?

Our newest Thinx Teens period-absorbing underwear styles absorb up to 12 regular tampons (or 3 regular pads’) worth of flow. They offer all-day, leakproof protection for up to 12 hours to support early and inconsistent teen periods. No other period products are needed.

Where does the period flow go?

Our newest period-absorbing underwear features our signature, innovative built-in absorbent technology within the gusset of the underwear – a moisture-wicking top layer, an ultra-absorbent core layer, and an outermost LeakSafe™™™ barrier that leaves teens feeling fresh and dry.

Which part of the underwear absorbs period flow?

The positioning of the absorbent gusset varies slightly by style but is positioned mainly towards the back. Thinx Teens Sleep Shorts feature an extended gusset throughout the front and back for additional coverage to catch your flow.

How does period underwear handle blood clots?

Our period-absorbing underwear handles blood clots similarly to a pad. Although the undies can’t absorb the blood clot, they’ll absorb the surrounding moisture to help teens feel fresh and dry.

What about odors?

Our period-absorbing underwear is ultra-absorbent, helps control odor, and wicks moisture to help keep your teen fresh and dry.
Follow our care instructions to keep your teens’ undies in tip-top shape.

Are period underwear sanitary?

Our period-absorbing underwear is ultra-absorbent, moisture-wicking, and helps control odor to help keep your teen fresh and dry.
If your teens’ undies have yet to reach capacity, we recommend they change at least once every 12 hours to avoid leaks.

Is it safe to wear Thinx?

Thinx underwear is safe. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, also known as PFAS, are absolutely not part of our product design and we do not treat our finished products with PFAS. We also take measures to help ensure these substances are not added to our products through material, design, production, facility, and supplier controls. We care deeply about the materials used in our products, putting comfort and safety at the core of our design, development and manufacturing.

Can you get TSS from period underwear?

Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is associated primarily with tampon use. Do not use period-absorbing underwear on open cuts, abrasions, or incisions.
